Versatile tillage equipment has been proven over hundreds of thousands of acres and five decades of groundbreaking expertise have been used to develop the adaptable and rugged Versatile Viking.

The vertical tillage tool will cut, chop and size difficult residue in the most demanding ground conditions while at the same time mixing the residue into the top 1" to 5" of soil. The Versatile Viking is designed for multi-season tillage thanks to an adjustable gang angle that can work through spring seedbed preparation and fall residue management with ease. The gang angle can be manually or hydraulically adjusted from 0-12° in 4° increments. Customize the implement to perform in a wide range of field and soil condition with gang angles that can be manually or hydraulically adjusted from 0-12° in 4° increments.

Spring
Use a shallow angle to prepare a seedbed. Lightly tilling the soil cuts and spreads residue evenly. This mix of soil and residue promotes decay while nutrients are brought forward. The opened soil surface lets in air flow which allows excess moisture to escape as well as aiding in the warming of the seedbed to promote rapid emergence.

Fall
Use a more aggressive angle for maximum residue management. The Viking VT shows its versatility by being able to perform light primary tillage operations in a wide variety of soils, promoting the breakdown of residue and incorporating trash into the top layer of soil to reduce over-winter erosion.

Blades

SoilRazor™ VT Blades
The heavy-duty SoilRazer™ VT blades stay sharp even as they wear due to their unique fluted design. The shallow concavity sawtooth blades capture and cut even the toughest residue. The blades deliver exceptional clod crushing ability and become more aggressive as the cutting edge wears. The blades are built with boron steel to last longer and maintain sharp edges throughout the entire wear zone. Choose between the 8" or 9" (203 or 229 mm) blade spacing to best match depth and field residue.

Blade Spacing
The Versatile Viking is available with either 8" or 9" spacing which is unique in the industry. The 8" spacing results in residue being cut or sized into smaller pieces. 9" spacing is more suitable when higher amounts of residue are present or deeper working depth is desired.

Blade Size
All blades on the Versatile Viking are an impressive 1/4" (6.5 mm) thick, surpassing the industry standard of 1/5" (5 mm).

Customization

Every operation has its own unique set of conditions. The Versatile Viking provides many options and can be configured to best suit specific needs. Varied results can be achieved by working shallow versus deeper, with smaller or wider blade spacing, smaller or larger blades, and by the angle of the gang.

Adjustable Working Depth

Adjust working depth from 0 to 5" (0 to 127 mm)
Shallow working depth:
  • To keep more stubble standing to trap snow and prevent air drill plugging; ideal for small grain crops
  • Allows for a faster working speed
  • Can fit into a no-till operation by cutting up trash with minimal soil disturbance
Deeper working depth:
  • A deeper working depth will move more soil vertically and laterally allow a greater residue mix with the soil
  • High-residue conditions
  • Improves ability to pull & chop up root balls

Adjustable Gang Angle

Adjust gang angle from 0 to 12°
Shallow gang angle:
  • Ideal to warm, dry or prepare the seedbed in spring
  • Disturbs the soil the least while leaving maximum residue on the surface
Greater gang angle:
  • Provides maximum ground penetration
  • Mixing soil and crop residue together
  • Fixing residue into the soil to minimize erosion

Choice of blade spacing

8" blade spacing:
  • For areas where smaller sized reside pieces are desired (4") and deep penetration is not required
  • Closer blade spacing means less weight per blade
9" blade spacing:
  • Provides a more aggressive tillage action with more weight per blade
  • Ideal for high residue conditions

Choice of Blade sizes

20" blades:
  • For areas where smaller sized reside pieces are desired (4") and deep penetration is not required
22", 24" blades:
  • Provides a more aggressive tillage action with more weight per blade
  • Works better with 9" blade spacing

Features

Tandem Walking Beam Axle

Tandem Walking Beam Axle

Standard equipment on the main frame and wings, each walking beam pivots on greaseable bushings to improve weight distribution and stability when the implement is being transported and provides for uniform working depth by averaging out field variations.
Stone-Flex Bearing Hangers

Stone-Flex Bearing Hangers

Mounting the blades in a gang configuration encourages each blade to continue working through tough residue where individually mounted blades could skid or plug. The Stone-Flex bearing hangers that support the gangs are designed to absorb shock loads at the higher working speeds and react to both vertical and horizontal forces. As a result, blade penetration is not compromised.
Heavy-Duty Gang Bearings

Adjustable Gang Angle

The ability to adjust each gang from 0 to 12° means that the Viking is more than just vertical tillage. With an angle of 0-4°, the Viking maintains a vertical cut in the soil, providing the benefits of vertical tillage. At 8-12°, the Viking can replace light primary tillage on the farm for fall and spring field work.
T2-215 Trunnion Mounted Bearings

T2-215 Trunnion Mounted Bearings

Exclusive to Versatile the T2-215 series bearings are trunnion mounted to provide positive alignment and handle gang shaft deflection that results from shock loads. Two 215 series ball bearings are positioned back-to-back within the oversized greaseable housing. Each bearing unit is rated at 22,800 lb radial load, well beyond any challenges they would face in the field, which is why Versatile is confident in providing a 7 year warranty on the T2-215 bearing assembly. If disc maintenance is required, the bearing housing design makes it simple to remove gangs by removing one bolt per bearing location.
Finishing Attachments

Finishing Attachments

The 12" diameter flat bar rolling baskets are available to assist with breaking apart clods and root wads and aid in the mixing of soil and residue as well as the firming and leveling of the soil surface. Also available is the 3-bar mounted tine harrows featuring an adjustable rake angle and spring-loaded carrier arms.
Versatile Viking Vertical Tillage Transport Mode

Multiple Hydraulic Convenience Upgrades

Each model can be equipped with three different hydraulic control upgrades; single point depth control, hydraulic hitch angle control, and hydraulic gang angle adjustment. Each of these features save time in the field and allow the operator to fine tune the field finish from the cab.
